چکیده

Starting from the beginning of the 20-century, slip-forming is widely used in formwork due to fast concrete work. Slip-forming is one of the potential concrete formwork methods that improves speed and productivity of repetitive vertical concrete work. Typical projects that employ this technique are: silos, core of high-rise buildings, telecommunication towers, cooling towers, heavy concrete offshore platforms, etc. Current research aims at assessing slip-form productivity using simulation as well as determining the best slip-form rate and resource combination. A simulation model for slip-forming technique is developed. Data are collected from a case study in slip-forming of concrete silo. The potential control units in the system are described while applying the developed model to the case study. Results show the usefulness of applying the developed simulation model to slip-forming technique with robust results of 99% validation.

Concrete Paving Productivity Improvement Using a Multi-task Autonomous Robot

To improve productivity in conventional concrete construction, autonomous robots that perform specific tasks are being developed. Single-task robots are capable of enhancing specific functions, though their impact on the overall productivity remains unclear. A robot that incorporates each task-specific piece of machinery used in the concrete paving process into one fully autonomous unit is eval...

Fragility Curves for Reinforced Concrete Frames with Lap-Spliced Columns

Placing column lap-splice in the locations of possible nonlinear deformation may adversely affect the structures response to strong ground motions. Localization of damage in splice zone may change the structural response and prevent the load redistribution and development of a uniform pattern of nonlinear excursions among the various members. Validated by existing laboratory experiments, this s...

Bond–Slip Relationship for CFRP Sheets Externally Bonded to Concrete under Cyclic Loading

The objective of this paper was to explore the bond-slip relationship between carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets and concrete under cyclic loading through experimental and analytical approaches. Modified beam tests were performed in order to gain insight into the bond-slip relationship under static and cyclic loading. The test variables are the CFRP-to-concrete width ratio, and the b...

Pre-Cracked Concrete Shear Strengthened with External CFRP Strips

In reinforced concrete design, there are situations where transfer of shear across a specific plane needs to be considered. Examples of such situation include corbels, bearing shoes, ledger beam bearing, and a host of connection between precast concrete elements. In this study, the shear transfer behavior of reinforced concrete is investigated experimentally by conducting test on 6 precracked p...

Second order nonlinear inelastic analysis of composite steelâ•ficoncrete members. I: theory

A total Lagrangian finite element FE model has been formulated for the nonlinear inelastic analysis of both composite beams and columns. An accurate rotation matrix is used in the position vector analysis and nonlinear strain derivations. The slip between the steel and concrete components due to the flexible shear connection at their interface is considered as an independent displacement in the...
